We saw a lot of bands, we ate even more food, hung out with great people and experienced a weather shift that threw everyone for a loop. That pretty much sums up the long weekend in Austin.

Warpaint, Holy Fuck, Yellow Fever, The Very Best were the standouts of Friday and Saturday. Actually, they might have been the only bands we saw Friday and Saturday, because we spent most of our time eating, sunburning then freezing.

Friday we had one of the weirdest experiences in a 2 block time-span. Lily and I are walking with friends Dana and Grayson, when a possibly homeless guy takes out an invisible camera and shoots a picture of Lily with it and as we continue to walk Grayson gets stuck in a near collision with a guy in a yellow and black plaid shirt, so Grayson grabs him and yells in his face “You’re a Pittsburg Steeler!” As we’re reeling from these two encounters a band dude says “Baroness, nice shirt!” to Grayson, but Dana (not wearing a “Baroness” shirt, just a plain red one) says “This shirt?” and we’re all utterly confused.

Maybe you had to be there, but we’re hoping to option the rights to this story and make a movie of it. It’ll be called “The Invisible Steelers Shirt”.

Anyway, it was a great experience. Austin is a wonderful city and one I look forward to visiting again. Here’s to the Whale Heart SXSW showcase for 2011, see you there!
