High Five: Warm Ghost
One of my new favorite bands is Warm Ghost. I met Paul and Oliver at their first show recommended to me by my friends at Geographic North, an awesome label from my hometown of Atlanta. Their “Claws Overhead” EP has been spinning constantly at the Whale Heart HQ.
Check out this awesome cover they released on their blog.

Little Horn’s Keith Forrester has been hard at work realizing a vision for his band since the release of his debut record, Such Pretty Houses. The record itself is a shimmering and southern gothic kind of folk, but it sounds like the band will be a different animal. Keith recently sat down with us to have a chat.
Whale Heart: What have you been up to lately?
Keith: Mainly getting...

high five: tom neal
no, that’s not tom neal, but that IS a tom neal shot.
last weekend at duchess leo’s cake shop show, i had the pleasure and good fortune of meeting photographer tom neal.
and by meeting i mean politely harassing. when i noticed him shooting away behind his camera, i could not resist asking him to send me some images. luckily tom was lovely enough to oblige me, and how glad are...
high five: ben & ashi
duchess leo and i had the pleasure of playing with ben & ashi at glasslands earlier this month. a sort of dream folk, if you will, theirs is the kind of music that makes you want to hold and be held so badly you unconsciously begin holding yourself.
if it seems like they should be together, it’s because they are. and their union has inspired a series of melancholy love songs, heart...
SWSX pt. II
We saw a lot of bands, we ate even more food, hung out with great people and experienced a weather shift that threw everyone for a loop. That pretty much sums up the long weekend in Austin.
Warpaint, Holy Fuck, Yellow Fever, The Very Best were the standouts of Friday and Saturday. Actually, they might have been the only bands we saw Friday and Saturday, because we spent most of our time eating,...
SXSW pt. I
Austin is a blast. We’ve been for for just about 24 hours now and can’t believe all the fun we’re having.
Yesterday we started out chilling with our Team Clermont friends at their excellent showcase over at the Flamingo Cantina. Saw Jookabox, Dengue Fever and Califone.
Then we caught Liars at Club de Ville before heading out on a Taco quest. Took us a while (re: we got lost)...
high five: alan wilkis
alan is what you call a triple threat: musician, producer, funky fresh remixer. i’d complain, but i’m too tired from dancing alone in my room to his take on yeasayer’s “ambling alp.”
so go give alan a high five and download his take on RJD2, phoenix and more - they’re free.
while you’re at it, check out his record, “pink and purple.” ...
high fives
we think george bluth senior said it best: “family first.”
whale heart is a family enterprise, anchored by the support of an amazing extended family of friends. and our friends are stupid talented, you guys. (i mean, have you seen the lions video!?)
we’d like to celebrate all the killer work our buddies are turning out, and what better way to give props than a high five?

Happy (belated) Holidays!
What a year it’s been! Starting this business this year has been an incredible experience and we’re really excited about everything coming up in 2010. We’re working on a new release schedule for our artists and have also signed a new young artist from Atlanta, Grace Bellury. Her voice is unbelievable and we’re pumped to be the ones to share her talent with the world....

The new site is up and running and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s looking. Matt and the fine folks at DiscRevolt have been accommodating and a pleasure to work with in building our store. The Pacific Theater vinyl goes to press on Monday if you pre-order a record, you can expect it to ship in mid-November.
We’re really proud of everything we’ve produced in 2009 and...
Changes
You may notice some changes here. We’re gearing up for an overhaul of Whale Heart Records and the blog is the first thing to get it’s facelift. It’s not perfect yet, but bear with us while we work out the kinks.
Celestial Bears
One of my favorite bands in Brooklyn these days is Bear In Heaven. Their new album “Beast Rest Forth Mouth” comes out October 13th on Home Tapes. Right now they just started an east coast tour. Check out this awesome remix of their first single “Wholehearted Mess” here.
Check them out online - http://www.bearinheaven.com and catch their live show. It’s really...
1928 Recordings
Our friends over at 1928 Recordings have relaunched their website and it is pretty great. They’ve got a cool webstore and some really unique products they are putting out. Their next release is a box set of three 7” individually packaged in cigar boxes accompanied by a pack of 1928 matches.
Also, they are going to have a great release show for the box set here in Brooklyn on October...

Muxtape →
Not too long ago an awesome site exploded on the web called Muxtape. The whole idea was for users to make a mixtape online and share it with friends. Well like all good things the RIAA stepped in an shut it down. It’s reopened in the service of bands and it’s like an exclusive Myspace that looks like 4,000,000 times better than Myspace. And now we’re on it! Click above!

journeys > destinations: on the way to Boston
Duchess Leo have beefed up their blog and it’s pretty great. Also, a good reminder of why you should always take Todd on road trips.
A quick note
If you follow Whale Heart Records, you’ve probably noticed that we had some pretty definite release dates on our top two releases and both those dates have come and gone pretty long ago. There’s a story to this and if you’ll indulge me, I’ll tell it.
Basically the long and short of it is, I was working on designing the cover for the CDs for Pacific Theater’s...
